06.02.26: Alika has just been selected as the Gatorade High School State Athlete of the Year in baseball. Congratulations, Alika!
Congratulations to new alumni member Alika Ahu ’26 on this selection for the Hawai’i High School Athletic Association Hall of Honor. He joins Jr. Bows Brad Stewart ’89, Grace Monahan ’22, and Milan Ah Yat ’24 in receiving this honor.
“12 outstanding senior student-athletes were selected by a 13-person committee of current and former sports reporters and athletic directors from around the state. The criteria is based mainly on athletic achievement but character, sportsmanship, academic record and community service also are taken into consideration. The 12 inductees will be honored at a banquet set for 5 p.m., May 31 at the Sheraton Princess Ka’iulani’s Ainahau Showroom.
Each inductee also will be awarded a $2,000 scholarship courtesy of the HHSAA and Enterprise Holdings, which owns and operates the Enterprise Rent-A-Car, National Car Rental and Alamo Rent-A-Car brands. The Hall of Honor program has been recognizing the top 12 Hawai‘i senior student-athletes each year since 1983.”‘

He was a huge factor in Pac-Five’s leap into Division I baseball. With Ahu playing shortstop and pitcher, the Wolfpack reached the D-I state championship game. In basketball, he was an All-State selection as a junior.
“My favorite memory as an athlete was late-night hitting in the batting cages at UH Lab or Hawaiian Hardball with my dad and two brothers after team baseball and basketball practice. My other favorite memory was going to Maui for baseball and basketball and staying with the team,” Ahu said.
The 6-foot-4, 210-pound shortstop is a rarity. He chose the path of a big fish in a small pond, combining with classmate and ace pitcher Colten Amai Nakagawa to spark the Wolfpack baseball squad.
“I enjoyed being from a school with not as much resources and students, but still competing with everyone else no matter who we played,” he said.
The future is bright at Stanford, or the MLB draft on July 11-12 might provide a different path. For now, he can spend a night dining with family as an inductee.
“I feel very grateful and honored to be inducted into the Hall of Honor. I am extremely blessed and appreciate the recognition,” he said. “None of this would be possible without my parents. My mom and dad sacrificed so much to give me the opportunities to become who I am today and I am forever grateful.”
Alika is headed to Stanford in the fall.
