Denise “Deni” Gallagher is a Diverse Learner Needs teacher at ULS in Honolulu, HI, for elementary and middle schoolers with disabilities, reading difficulties, and language challenges. During the pandemic she met with her students one-on-one online and in person to make sure they received all the support they needed. She designed websites and created digital resources for her students to use remotely during school closures. She’s an advocate for students with disabilities, works closely with their families, ensuring they know their rights and receive the services that they deserve. She has her TESOL certification and is also a Literacy Specialist. She’s a part of Delta Kappa Gamma and attended the Hawaii 808Speducate Conference. Deni also volunteers teaching reading to young children in her community. In addition, she is in her 7th year serving as a mentor teacher through the University of Hawaii at Manoa where she trains student teachers who are apprenticing to become future educators.
If that’s not enough, she is also a single mother who works hard to find a balance between work and family and always puts her needs last. I can’t think of a more deserving person of this prize. Please vote for this amazing woman!
