Bill Teter: Jr. Bow Speech Tournament Results

The Speech Team has had a busy January. The first qualifying tournament of the spring semester was held on January 15. The following students qualified for the State Championship Tournament in April:

Tori Yamada: 3rd place, Original Oratory
Allie Quan: 2nd place, Original Oratory
Miyu Owada: 2nd place, Program Oral Interpretation
Alyssa Greaver: 1st place, Humorous Interpretation

This past weekend, January 29, the team competed in the online Seattle University National HS Invitational. The tournament drew 479 students from 71 schools in 15 states. Congratulations to the following students:

Allie Quan: semi-finalist in Original Oratory; finalist in Dramatic Interpretation
Miyu Owada: 3rd place, Program Oral Interpretation
Alyssa Greaver & Makoa Montero: 1st place, Duo Interpretation

In addition, Alyssa Greaver, Makoa Montero, and Allie Quan (Oratory) received invitations to compete in the National Individual Events Tournament of Champions in May. This is the second most prestigious high school speech and debate competition in the country after the National Speech & Debate Association National Tournament in June.

The Speech Team has two more tournaments this spring leading up to the State Championship in April. I’m still looking for two judges for each of them, Feb. 5 and Mar. 5. If anyone is free and willing to help as a judge, please contact me as soon as possible at
