Let’s Write: Monday 08.17.20

Aloha #WriterMonday to all of you.  I hope you had a safe and productive weekend.  Mondays are Bamboo Shoots Monthly Writing Contest #WritingPrompt days, and here’s the third prompt of the month.  You may recognize the gentleman in this photo, Weilin Wang, who famously stood in front of advancing Chinese military tanks during the Tiananmen Square protests.  The prompts I can think of off the top of my head are:

Weilin Wang
protests
human rights
individual actions
the military

Maybe you can think up some of your own.

Here are the previous two Monday prompts for this month.  Prompt #1 was:

A stuffed animal pig dressed as a cook, wearing an apron that says I love you more than bacon.

The cannibal pig who loves you more than bacon.  I can think of several prompts:

bacon
breakfast
pigs
cooking
animals
toys
Valentine’s Day

And this was last week’s prompt #2:

A picture of Kalapana and the lave flowing into the ocean.

The writing prompts that come to mind are:

Big Island
Kalapana
volcano
lava
ocean
neighbor islands

Maybe others leap to mind for you.

Pick any prompt you like and write anything, any style, short or long, a sentence or a song, a story or a simple anecdote, a mystery or a mini-history — whatever you like — and then post it for a chance to win “big money” — you know what I’m talking about — it’s bragging rights at the water cooler come the first week of September.

Just write already.  Stop thinking too much.  Thinking too much leads to an enormous output of blank paper.  It’s like former U.S. Poet Laureate Billy Collins says about his poems:  It’s the ones you touch the least that you tend to keep.

So write, write, write.  Pigs, Puna, Protests — whatevahs!  Get going right now. Then submit your piece here:
