The Japan-U.S. Teacher Education Consortium (JUSTEC) cordially invites educators
to JUSTEC 2026, an in-person conference, to exchange ideas, methods, insights,
and challenges in teacher education. JUSTEC 2026 will provide an opportunity to
share research and practice regarding teacher education for pre-service and
in-service teachers. We encourage teachers to commit to a mission of social
justice, educational equity, and excellence, so as to enhance society and the
world through education. Our 2026 theme explores the ways in which educators
navigate change in supporting meaningful learning and growth. How do teachers
and teacher educators strive for innovative, effective, reflective, and meaningful
practice, given the various contexts and forces (social, institutional, and/or
political) that impact their work? University faculty and administrators, P-12
teachers and leaders, policymakers, curriculum developers, and graduate students
are invited to submit proposals.

Teacher Leadership:
Teacher leadership is an area of teacher education that examines teachers who
take on leadership roles and responsibilities in addition to regular classroom
teaching responsibilities. It differs from administrative or principal leadership,
which emphasizes K-12 administrators whose responsibilities are in leading the
school. Some examples of teacher leadership in K-12 include: mentor teacher,
instructional coach, reading coordinator, grade or subject lead teacher,
curriculum specialist, cooperating/mentor teacher, etc. Research in this area
might include studies in teacher-led professional development, teacher
mentoring relationships, structures and systems of instructional coaching, and
the lives and experiences of teacher leaders.
