![]() Lanning, earlier this year, your compassion helped us avert the unthinkable — euthanizing animals due to our Capacity to Care being stretched beyond its limits. Your support gave every dog another chance. Today, we are back at that same heartbreaking crossroads. We have 155 dogs in our care, and only 43 kennels. Our shelter is beyond capacity, and the stress on the animals, and our team, is overwhelming. We are watching hopelessly as some of the dogs in our care mentally deteriorate. This can look like frantic pacing, loud barking, jumping off the kennel walls, and other destructive and self-injurious behaviors. Last Friday, we shared with our community that more than 20 long-term dogs were at-risk. Despite exhausting every option, rescue, transfer, and return-to-owner, these dogs now have only one path left: adoption. But there is still hope. Five dogs (and counting) have already found homes since last Friday, thanks to our community rallying together. But for the rest, time is running out. Those not adopted by October 30, 2025 will be humanely euthanized. This isn’t about a lack of love. It’s about a system stretched to its breaking point. As Maui’s only open-intake shelter, we simply can’t turn animals away. And yet, each day we push past capacity, we risk the health, safety, and spirit of every animal in our care. With your help we can keep this momentum going to save even more lives. Please, open your heart today: adopt, foster, share their stories, or make a lifesaving donation to give these dogs and those yet to come, a future filled with care and compassion. |
