September 5, 2025

Aloha ULS Ohana,

The University Laboratory School (ULS) is a unique and special charter school that serves two interlocking missions:

1. To design and deliver the best education possible to its students.
2. To serve as a seedbed for educational research and development.

Its vision: That all students graduate ready for college, employment, and, most importantly, become responsible and engaged citizens.

As we said farewell to a successful 2024–2025 school year, we now welcome the 2025–2026 year with optimism and excitement. The continued success of our students is made possible by the tremendous generosity of our supporters. Achieving the mission and vision of ULS depends on the giving hearts of our ULS ʻOhana, alumni, community, and private donors.

The University Laboratory School Foundation (ULSF) is a small but dedicated 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization run by volunteers. The Foundation manages five major funds that directly support our school community:

• The Jr. Bows General Endowment Fund
• The Parent Appeal Fund
• The Leighton Wong ULS Athletic Support Fund
• The Music and Secondary Language Fund
• The Shizumi Kunioka Food and Nutrition Fund

Details about these funds can be found at ulsfoundation.org.

In addition to overseeing these funds, ULSF organizes two major annual fundraising events: the ULS Golf Tournament and the ULS LEIgacy Gala. Our mission is twofold:

1. To provide financial support to the school for improvements, programs, and events through grants, investments, and appeals.

2. To help ULS sustain and thrive for generations to come.

We are proud to announce the Inaugural ULS LEIgacy Gala, honoring Shizumi Kunioka, will be held on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at The Royal Hawaiian Hotel, Monarch Ballroom. More information about our honoree and how to attend this year’s Gala is also available on our website: https://www.ulsfoundation.org/gala

Thanks to your collective generosity, ULSF contributed over $89,000 in perpetuity to the school last year.

Your support helped purchase:

• Classroom desks and chairs
• Cafeteria tables
• Choral risers
• AV systems for the MPB and Band room
• Science Chemical-safe classroom tables
• Carpeting for elementary, orchestra, and LSP 3 classrooms
• Air conditioning for classrooms
• Computers and Musical instruments
• Travel support for students attending national competitions and international events
• Travel for the boys’ and girls’ basketball programs.
• New warm up tops and gym bags for the boys’ and girls’ intermediate basketball programs

Your support makes an immediate difference for ULS students and their families.

Help Us Build Our Rainbow!

Our goal this year is to raise $500,000 to build and grow the ULSF Jr. Bows General Endowment Fund. This fund supports facility upgrades, curriculum and program development, and the purchase of essential learning tools and equipment.

We understand that times are challenging, and we ask you to contribute what you can. If each family gives $2,500, in addition to support from alumni, community members, and private donors, we can achieve this goal. Monthly giving options are available online to make contributing more manageable.
