HEARING POSTED – URGENT ACTION NEEDED | OPPOSE HB 1378-HD2
Aloha, Friends,
I wrote to you last Friday about HB1378-HD2, and many of you called the Senators of the TCA committee to urge them not to hear this bill. Thank you for your important efforts! Unfortunately, Chair Chris Lee proceeded to put HB1378-HD2 on the docket and the TCA committee will hear the bill on Thursday, March 13, at 3:15 PM at the State Capitol in Room 224. (Here is the hearing notice.) Please see the email below from Hawaii Arts Alliance on actions you can take. I would like to highlight submitting written testimony and attending the hearing on Thursday in person or on zoom.
Submitting written testimony is very easy. Follow this link here. Click the orange “Submit Testimony” button near the top, enter bill 1378 and click continue. If you had not previously done so, you will be asked to register with your email address. You can submit written testimony by attaching a file or by typing directly into the online form. Be sure to click OPPOSE. For reference, I am attaching the testimony I just submitted this morning. The more written testimony we get opposing this bill the better. Even submitting a short note stating your opposition carries great weight with our Legislators who are there to serve the people. Let me know if I can help you with this.
Please also join me and others at the State Capitol, Room 224 on Thursday, March 13 at 3:15 PM for this hearing. Please arrive by 3:00 PM and give yourself plenty of time to park, go through security and up the elevator to get to this hearing. If you can’t be there in person, you can participate via zoom. In the email below, I’ve highlighted in yellow, the link to click to register to attend via zoom.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me with any questions. Thank you for your attention and actions on this matter. You, your presence, and your voice matter. Let’s make a difference together. One of the things that makes Hawaii so unique is our culture and arts. I’ve often lamented that “everybody arts here, but no one is paid.” HB1378-HD2 would debilitate us further.
With gratitude and aloha,
Seema
