Annual ULS ‘Paina: Calling All Alumni to Kōkua

Aloha to all the Jr. Bow alumni.

My name is Mel (Chang) Nakao, UHS ‘69.  I’m wondering if any of you, our graduates, would be able to help us with the ULS Pa‘ina on Saturday, March 8, 2025.  I have been in charge of the Country Store and Silent Auction ever since the school started the Pa‘ina to fundraise for the students, faculty and staff of University Laboratory School. 

This year, I’m enlisting the assistance of Lanning Lee, UHS ‘72, one of the three founders of the UHS/ULS Alumni Association, the author and webmaster of the University High/Laboratory School web site https://juniorbowshi.com  

Another person I have recruited is my classmate, Roger Watanabe, who, like me, he has been at the University High/Laboratory School program since he was 4 years old!  He knows many of you as well since sisters, Carolyn UHS ‘63 and Kathy UHS‘76 and brother Brent UHS ‘66 also attended the school. He was on the coaching staff of University’s first State Boys Basketball Championship Team (1977-78), and he was an instructor at the school and was part of the leadership of the Booster Club of the late 90s to early 2000s — Do you or your parents remember Selling Huli Huli Chicken!

Calling all graduates: Alumni, we need your help! 

1. Friday, March 7, 2025, 2 pm to 6pm at the MPB (setting up, repacking produce, labeling, pricing for Country Store and Silent Auction.
2. Saturday, March 8, 2025, 9 AM to 4 PM (the 7 hour time span will be divided into 3, 3 hour shifts). Shift 1 (9am to 1 pm): set up, sales, restock. Shift 2 (11am to 2 pm): sales, restock. Shift 3 (1 pm to 4 pm): sales, cleanup 
3. We also need any silent auction items you can donate: restaurant, fast food gift cards, regifted Christmas gifts, sports items, clothing with tags on them, anything you think people would bid on! We’re happy to pick up any donations you can make.
