His project: Sponge Studies: Assessing the Effects of Environmental Impacts on Marine Sponge Detritus Production, and Use as a Natural Deep Sea eDNA Sampler
And he took:
1st place – Public School Project
1st place – Environmental Science Category
3rd place – Senior Division (High School), Overall
Hawaiʻi Water Environment Association Award – $100
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) – Scholarship Award – $1000
And a shot at the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF)
Then, in the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in Los Angeles, he took
a 2nd place – Earth and Environmental Science – $2000
Long Island University Presidential Scholarship – full tuition for 4 years
