Hawai’i Nature Center summer camps

Hawai‘i Nature Center in Makiki is now accepting applications for its expanded summer nature camps.

The camps are open to keiki ages 6 to 11 and promise to replace screen time with “green time.” Participants will embark on outdoor adventures led by environmental educators who specialize in outdoor exploration and discovery with hands-on education.

The summer program will feature islandwide explorations of four ecosystems: forests, wetlands, coastlines and streams. Each week will feature a place that represents one of those ecosystems, and keiki will learn about the science and culture behind the place before taking a field trip there. Locations will include Mānoa Cliff Trail, Judd Trail, Hāmākua Marsh, Hūnānāniho, Moanalua Valley Trail and Maunalua Bay, among others. Activities include hiking, fishing, bug hunting, nature games and crafts.

The five-day nature camps are $475 and program hours are from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Guardians may drop off keiki as early as 7:45 a.m., but extended late afternoon care is not available.
