Robert Silva, Class of 1991

Aloha Kakou,

If high school students either Juniors going to be Seniors or graduating Seniors want to take an intro automotive class during the summer at Honolulu Comunity College, our clss starts on June 12 and runs to July 21. The students spend half the day at the Honolulu Community College Automotive shop and the other half of the day working at the Cutter dealerships with technicians,

Upon passing this class, students earn 4 free college credits and get some experience working on vehicles. Students do not need to have automotive experience to take this class, and then they can see if this might be an interest, especially since many high schools do not have an automotive class as an elective course.

I have the documents that are needed in order to enroll if any high school Junior or graduating Senior is interested. So contact me with your email address and I can send you the documents.

I made at least double the income as an automotive technician with an AAS degree (Associates in Applied Science) than what I made with my BA, and throughout the COVID craziness, automotive technicians were still working because they are considered essential. This field has evolved into complicated multiplex systems with 10-20 computers and 10,000 feet of wiring that runs todays vehicles. It’s challenging yet satisfying.
