Aloha one and all,
The Hawai‘i Speech League (HSL) season is drawing to an end with the State Championship Tournament next month. The Lab School Speech Team has had a very good year; the entire speech portion of the team qualified for States. We are taking the second largest speech squad into the tournament. In addition we have one student qualified for the debate portion of the tournament. As you know, the winners of this tournament go on to compete at Nationals in June (this year in Phoenix/Mesa, Arizona).
This is of course wonderful news – but it means we need a-space-lot of judges spread out over the three days of the competition. So I’m putting out one last call for judges for this final tournament. The schedule is below. For those of you who don’t yet know, this will be my last State Tournament; I’ll be finishing up as Coach at the end of this year. I would love to see as many of you as possible this last time. If you can come for one entire day, that would be great. But even if you are only available for a round or two, that also would be really helpful. If you would like to serve as a judge at States, just let me know your availability, and I’ll pass that information on to the Judges Chair.
If you have not judged at a tournament in the last year or so, you’ll need to set up a judging account with Tabroom.com, the site that handles the scheduling of students and judges at our tournaments these days. I’ll be glad to explain all that to you.
It has been a very good run, and I’ve been honored to work with the students over the years (including a number of you out there) who have so proudly represented the Lab School in the HSL. I cannot think of a better way to wrap up my time as coach than with this team and with any of you who can help out by judging. And if you are unable to, please send strong Junior Bow vibes our way.
Mahalo!
